This course requires the use of computers to deepen your
understanding of the subjects under study. All written assignments must be prepared
and submitted electronically. Internet access and the use of database and
project management software is also required for this
course. Instructional classes in the Internet, word processing, and
presentation graphics software packages are scheduled by Information Technology
during the semester, in the event that you have not used these tools before. We
will set aside class time for lab exercises with database and project
management software. I am also working with the IT department and the communications
department to make additional tutorials available for viewing via iTunes.
On the Le Moyne campus,
Microsoft Project is only available in the SC228 lab, so you will need to
schedule time in the lab to complete your assignments. Microsoft Access is also
installed in SC228. The final database project includes a Microsoft Project
Gantt chart, so don’t forget to plan accordingly.
All students are encouraged to use electronic mail to
communicate with me and with each other. My email address is provided at the
top of the syllabus. I also assume you check your Le Moyne email daily.
Anything e-mailed 24 hours before class is scheduled to begin is fair game that
day in class. I have 2 rules for emails if you want a response from me:
1.
Put your registered class
time in the subject line. Below are two examples of subject lines. The first
one is great. The second one will NOT
get a response from me.
a.
MIS201 J-mester Project question
b.
Project question…please
help
2.
Use your LeMoyne email account. LeMoyne’s
spam filter might hijack your email from another account. I had a student
insist on using his hotmail account. His messages
went to the spam area. I have no control over the spam area and I get a nightly
email showing me what the spam filter caught. Needless to say my responses
always took much longer than necessary.
