One of the important functions of the mathematics department is to work in close cooperation with the other departments of the College in developing the necessary tools required by students in these disciplines. However, the department's principal objective is to assist its students in acquiring an in-depth understanding and mastery of modern mathematics. As a result, they will be qualified to undertake advanced studies in the mathematical sciences, become qualified teachers of mathematics, or pursue careers in any of the numerous areas where mathematics is applied or quantitative reasoning is needed. To assist in this the curriculum is composed of a variety of concentrations. These permit the student to emphasize those areas of mathematics which are most closely related to one's career goals while maintaining the traditions of pure mathematics.

Computer Science courses are offered through the Department of Mathematics.
