Abstract
The Méthode de nomenclature chimique, published in 1787, provides the basis for the systematic nomenclature of binary inorganic compounds still in common use more than two centuries later. The presentation will display some component parts of this publication, particularly the large summary table of nomenclature.
Contents
- A Memoir on the necessity of reforming and bringing to perfection the Nomenclature of Chymistry... by Mr. Lavoisier
- A Memoir to explain the Principles of the Methodical Nomenclature... by Mr. de Morveau
- A Memoir to explain the Table of the Nomenclature, by Mr. de Fourcroy
- Introduction to the two Synonyma
- Ancient and new Synonyma in alphabetical order
- A Dictionary for the New Chymical Nomenclature
- An Account of the New Chymical Nomenclature [essentially a referees' report]
- A Memoir on the New Characters [chemical symbols] to be used in Chymistry; by Messrs. Hassenfratz and Adet
- Second Memoir on the New Characters to be employed in Chymistry..., by Messrs. Hassenfratz and Adet
- An Account of the Substance of two Memoirs on the New Characters to be used in Chymistry [ostensibly a referees' report; actually a defense of antiphlogistic theory]
