The dance is for Lisa Brown, President of the Syracuse Chapter of the Jane Austen Society, member of the Country Dancers of Rochester, and devotee of maggots. Lisa particularly enjoys gates and double figure eights.
In A1, emphasize the curvature of the cast in the "cross and cast." The active couple should loop out and down the outside, not simply dance down the outside. Dancing in after curving out will help the next figure, gates.
In A1, the ones are moving past their original twos and toward the next twos; likewise, those twos are moving up past their original ones. The gate figure involves neighbors that are moving toward each other, not those who just moved past each other.
The double figure eight in B1 begins with the actives (below their original twos) crossing up and the twos casting down.
