Prerequisite: QUA 501 and spreadsheet skills from MIS 501

Course Objectives:

This course focuses on the design, operation and control of production systems. Objectives include: 1) increasing our understanding of problems and opportunities facing operations managers in service and manufacturing organizations, 2) developing our ability to apply operations management concepts to a variety of situations, 3) developing our understanding of operations management techniques at a level that can be useful in evaluating technical recommendations made by specialists in the field

Class Time:

Class time is divided into three parts: 1) Lecture (approx. 90 min.), 2) problem solving session (including computer work), and 3)in-class gro up exercise.

Course Evaluation:

* Two take-home assignments covering the course fundamentals including computer work. Assignments are given one week before their due date. You are expected to work on the assignments independently. (40% each) Tentative Due Dates: 10/17 & 12/5.

*Nine in-class exercises performed in groups of two. These are typically simple problems assigned at the end of each lecture to emphasize basic concepts and are due the follow ing class period. (10%)
