Tune: Jenny Lind Polka, as A(ABCD)3 (AB=sticking, CD=figures)???
Sequence: Once to Yourself, Chorus, Allemande Hey, Chorus, Double Cross, Chorus, Hunt the Snark, Chorus.
Chorus: Pair up in the line. Step throughout. Everyone turn over your right shoulder to face your "shadow", and strike once per beat backhand-high, forehand-low, backhand-high, forehand-low with them, then turn over your left shoulder to face your partner and strike forehand-high, backhand-low, forehand-high, backhand-low. Repeat a total of 4 times, drifting toward the top of the set. When you reach the top of the line, turn as if to clash, then continue in the direction of your turn and dance to the bottom of the line in 8 strikes as everyone in line moves up (exception: on the last two sets of 4 clashes everyone in line dances in place). You'll end the chorus in a different place than you started (unless you're in a set of 6). [For the last chorus, dance off instead of to the bottom of the set.]
Allemande Hey: Pair up in the line. Toss your stick to your left hand, turn the person you're facing one-and-a-half times around by the right hand, pass left shoulders with the next person and right shoulders with the next. Repeat, exchanging rights with lefts. Repeat the entire sequence one more time. You will end the hey in a different spot than you started (unless you're in a set of 6).
Double Cross: Pair up in the line. Dance out to your left for 4 beats. Turn over your right shoulder to face back into the set, approach your partner at the centerline of the set, leap up and clash on beat 8? as you pass right shoulders, and continue across to the other side of the set. Repeat this last sequence. Turn and approach one last time, but on beat 8 leap and begin an 8-count swing.
Hunt the Snark: Pair up in the line. All step throughout. Only the two ends and two middles will travel in this figure, and they do a hey around the stationary dancers. The figure begins with the ends hunting (following) the middles for 8 beats: the middles do 3/4 of a left-shoulder hey [3456781 in the figure below] while the ends do 3/4 of a right-shoulder hey [1234567]. Next the (original) middles hunt the ends for 8 beats: the ends turn and do 3/4 of a left-shoulder hey with the group they just passed [7456781] while the middles do 3/4 of a right-shoulder hey [1234567]. This leaves everyone back in their original places. Now follow the same paths in reverse, with the ends hunting the middles for 8 beats and then the middles hunting the ends for 8 beats.
