On Campus Housing
Participants who choose to stay on campus will be lodged in residence halls at the Le Moyne Heights I & II complex. These are two relatively newly-built student apartments located at the foot of the hill beneath the main college complex. They are located adjacent to each other, have off-street parking, and are a five minute walk to the conference locale. For participants who will be driving, there will also be parking at the top of the hill near the conference venue itself. We will be able to accommodate roughly 65-70 participants in total in on-campus housing.
Le Moyne Heights I (on the right above in the picture and map ) contains 18 apartments in the two-building complex, most of which are two bedroom apartments. Each apartment has a full kitchen. The rooms in these accommodations have beds for singles only.
Le Moyne Heights II (on the left above in the picture and map) has 19 apartments. Half of the apartments, which are accessed from the front of the buildings, are two stories with a full kitchen, two bedrooms, a living room area, a balcony, and two and a half baths. The apartments that are accessed from the back of the buildings are single story including two bedrooms, a full kitchen, living room and two bathrooms. The rooms in these accommodations have beds for either singles and doubles.
Le Moyne Heights I is NOT air conditioned, but Le Moyne Heights II IS air conditioned. The average temperature in Syracuse in June is 65º F (18º C) with an average high of 77 degrees F (25º C) during the day and an average low of 55º F (13º C) at night. Normally air conditioning is not required at this time of year and, often, a fan is quite sufficient for comfort.
Off Campus Housing • Hotels
Le Moyne College is located primarily in the town of Dewitt about 2.5 miles east of the campus of Syracuse University and 2.5 miles south of Carrier Circle in East Syracuse. While there is a new hotel under construction right below the College’s location along Erie Blvd., it has not yet announced its opening. There are no other hotels or motels in the immediate college vicinity which we would recommend. But, I have listed the hotels below which Le Moyne College does recommends to our visitors. They are located at Carrier Circle (East Syracuse), in Syracuse itself, and in Fayetteville.
Carrier Circle is a traffic roundabout just south of the New York State Thruway at Exit 35 and adjacent to the property of the Carrier Corporation. Over the last twenty years, the area surrounding Carrier Circle has become the site of more than a dozen hotels of varying levels of quality. The area is primarily light industrial, but most of the hotels are clustered together in a kind of residential park in the area just east of Carrier Circle along State Route 298 (see map above).
Syracuse itself has only a scattering of hotels compared to Carrier Circle. These are listed below.
Fayetteville is a suburban town about 3 miles east of Le Moyne College. It contains the rather nice Fayetteville Towne Center shopping complex/mall. Across from the Towne Center is located The Craftsman Inn, a nice hotel.
Note that we have made no special arrangements for the conference itself with any of these hotels. But in making a reservation, the College Admission Office suggests that you mention the college for a possible rate reduction. Note that there is a significant hotel tax rate in New York State which will add $15-20/night to the basic room charge. All figures quoted below for each hotel represent the range of rates (without tax) that I found in mid-January 2010 when inquiring about a possible three-day stay for the conference. Most rates are for either one or two guests per room. You may find a different rate, e.g., for Seniors, AAA or Canadian Automobile Assn., etc., in your own search.
