EXTRA-/INTROVERSION: A FACET OF THE S MOTIVE

Extra-/Introversion (E/I) and Openness to Experience (two Big Five factors) can be interpreted with Digman (Higher-order factors of the Big Five, Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, 1997, 73, 1246-1256) as a facet of the S motive (self-enhancement/self-assertive) of Hubert Hermans. In a literature study of E/I, 26 empirically-verified relations with other constructs were found. No relation was dominant. The correlations were low to medium high. In this paper we will consider relations which are important for the SCM therapy as personality disorders, loneliness, self evaluation, need for stimulation, learning styles, operant learning, and reactons to frustrations.
