OPERATOR OF THE STRATEGIC INTERACTION:
AN ECOLOGICAL APPROACH TO MINORS DIAGNOSED FOR PSYCHOLOGICAL PROBLEMS
Our work, based on the experience in working with the social service of Venice Municipality, points out the limits of traditional intervention with minors diagnosed for any kind of psychological problem (e.g. problems of an anti-social nature). This consists of a psychiatric approach based on medicalization, often not well accepted nor by minor nor by his/her family. We had a different kind of approach by not focusing the intervention on the person as an individual but on the whole social context. That means we had to define the role of the 'operator of the strategic interaction', as we called it. His aim would be to work on several levels (insitutional, extra-institutional and personal), building a social network in order to give to the minor the possibility to be narrated (and also self-narrated) in a different way as well as using a smooth, 'ecological' therapeutic approach (through domiciliary and 'open air' interventions). In this way we avoid the undertaking of a deviant and/or psychiatric patient carrier, trying instead to create premises for an autonomous future.
