The most common next steps for chemistry graduates include graduate study in chemistry or a related field, professional school in a health-related field such as medicine or dentistry, employment in a business related to chemistry (such as an pharmaceutical company or environmental analysis firm), or teaching chemistry in a high school. Chemistry graduates can also pursue careers in patent law, technical writing, or sales of chemical products. The American Chemical Society (ACS) has a career-oriented website particularly for college students: ACS College to Career
Summer Research Opportunities
- General resources
- Selected chemistry-related REU (Research Experience for Undergraduates) programs in upstate New York funded by the National Science Foundation
Undergraduate Research Opportunities at Le Moyne
- Most of the chemistry faculty have active lab research programs in which they mentor undergraduates. See faculty page for more information.
- The Le Moyne Student Research Committee administers funding (by competitive proposal) for supplies, materials, travel to conferences, and summer housing. It also organizes Student Scholars Day, at which students across the college present their research.
Graduate School Resources
The American Chemical Society publishes a directory of graduate research (DGR) in chemistry. Le Moyne's office of career services has graduate school resources. Graduate programs typically have relevant information about research, faculty, and application processes on line. For information on a given institution, google the institution and "chemistry" or follow links from the institution's front page.
