This tune is associated with English soldiers going off to war. The storyline has the men marching off in a square: up, across, down, and across back home. After other maneuvers, they return to their partners ("The Girl I Left Behind Me") for a two-hand turn. Then off they go again.
A1: The men are marching for the entire A1, but the ladies join in crossing the set. So the set crossings are with an opposite-gender-role person, by the right shoulder. The first cross is with a current or former corner; the second cross is with partner.
A2: The stars are with the current minor set--which may not be obvious to the first man, who is just coming back from marching up out of that set.
