The sites listed on this page are provided for the convenience of Le
Moyne College students, faculty, and others who are interested in pursuing information
about religion on the Internet. Annotations provide some preliminary guidance about the
content and academic utility of particular sites; but because of the constantly shifting
character of information on the Internet, I cannot guarantee the continuing accuracy of
annotated remarks or of links to specific sites. Some sites contain
sensitive or controversial information or links to other sites that are sensitive and
controversial. Inclusion of a site in the following list does not imply any endorsement by
me or by Le Moyne College of the information or views to be found at or through such a

- TELA: Scholars Press WWW Site
- This is the site for the American Academy of Religion, the Society for Biblical
Literature, and the American Philological Association. It offers membership services,
publication resources, and links to other scholarly web sites dealing with religion.
- A Guide to the Best
Religious Studies Resources on the Internet
- The title for this site is pretentious, but it does offer sometimes useful links to
various web sites in religion and religious studies.
- U. of North Texas religious studies
sources
- This site is a subpage of U. of North Texas history department's sources and provides
many links to the study of religion. Not well annotated.
- Ontario Consultants on Religious Tolerance
- A privately maintained site in Kingston, Ontario, this site offers much useful,
generally accurate information on a wide variety of religious groups, beliefs, and
practices. A useful site to visit, especially concerning "hot" religious topics
of the day.
- Religion Bibliography
- This site is a sometimes useful, but spotty, bibliography of sources in religion,
maintained by the University of Toronto,
- Religion Online: Full texts by recognized religious scholars
- This site provides full texts of important works by major religious thinkers. Copyrights
have been purchased or have expired so that they can be used freely. Unfortunately, only
Protestant Christian texts are included so far in the project.
- The following links are supplemented by links in other categories such as Christian
Studies.
- American Religion Links
- This site, maintained at University of West Virginia, contains much useful information
for the study of religion in America as well as a though list of relevant links to other
sites. This is an important resource for those doing research in this area.
- Pluralism Project--Harvard University
- This is a major online resource for the study of all aspects of religion in America. The
site offers valuable information and links as well as multimedia materials.
- The Center for the Study of American
Religion
- This Center is located at Princeton University and sponsors conferences and provides
resources for scholars of American religion. Little direct information on American
religion is available through this site.
- Academic Info: Religion in America
- A useful annotated directory of Internet resources for the study of religion in the
United States.
- Americans United for Separation of Church and State
- This organization takes a strong "separationist" position on matters
pertaining to the relationship between religious organizations and government. The site
provides much useful information on the topic and on persons and organizations who are
concerned about such matters.
- Christian Coalition
- This is the official web site for the Christian Coalition, a major political
organization whose viewpoint is generally Evangelical or conservative Christian.
- People For the American Way
- PFAW is an organization that provides information on public policy from a liberal
religious perspective--something of an antidote to the Christian Coalition.
- Freedom Forum: Religion
- This is the religion section of the Freedom Forum web site. This section offers reliable
information and links on matters of public policy and religion.
- The Public Religion Project
- Directed by Martin E. Marty, professor emeritus in the Divinity School of the University
of Chicago, this project monitors the interface between religious organizations and
determination of public policy in the USA. (AS OF 2/26/99, THIS SITE IS NOT FUNCTIONING

- Southern Poverty Law Center
- This site tracks information on various hate groups in the USA: KKK, Neo-Nazi, White
Supremacist, and Militia groups.
- Stormfront White Nationalist / White Pride Resource
- A despicable site with links to other despicable sites, this resource is nevertheless
important for anyone who needs to be informed about the activities of radical white
supremacist or neo-Nazi groups.
- Native American Resources
- This site is a major compilation of links to information about Native American culture
and religion. It is maintained by Fr. Ray Bucko, S.J., who teach anthropology at Le Moyne
College.

- National Conference of Catholic Bishops/United States Catholic
Conference
- This is the official site of the Roman Catholic Bishops in the USA. It contains much
useful information about the current projects of the USCC and online copies of some
official documents.
- Vatican WEB Site
- Site of the Vatican web page with links to magnificant art, the Vatican library,
scholarship, and official church teachings, pronouncements, and documents.
- The Monastery of
Christ in the Desert
- Visit a Benedictine monastary in New Mexico! The site provides an interesting glimpse
into contemporary monastic life, and the art is, alone, worth a look.

- The Episcopal Church
- This is the official site of the Episcopal Church in the USA. It contains much
information about the beliefs, practices, and current activities of the church as well as

- The Ecole Initiative: Index Page
- This site offers an electronic encyclopedia and links to electronic texts and
scholarship pertaining to early Christian history through 1500 C.E. It is a major
scholarly resource for anyone doing research in that area.
- Documents of Roman Catholic Church
- This site offers online copies of decrees of official Roman Catholic church councils,
some papal documents, and some writings of early theologians. Non-Roman Catholic documents
are excluded.
- Byzantine and Medieval Web Links
- Prodigious listing of web sites pertaining to Byzantine, medieval, Jewish, Islamic,
Christian, and world history and culture.
- Christus Rex
- Gateway to liturgical, doctrinal, and papal information generally collected from a
traditionalist Roman Catholic perspective.

- Very nice collection of primary sources and web sites pertaining to all subject areas;
especially thorough on religion and history.
- Woodstock Theological Center
This is a very helpful collection of scholarly sites pertaining to Roman Catholicism
and other religious traditions.
- Shamash Home Page
- Maintained at Hebrew College, this site is a gateway to a great deal of information and
several links to other useful sites pertaining to Judaica.
- Study of Judaism and Christianity
- This site contains an extensive list of links to information about both Judaism and
Christianity. Very comprehensive and useful.
- Jewish Studies Resources--Princeton
University Library
- This site is a gateway to much information online about Judaism and Israel.
The Hindu Universe
This privately maintained site provides many useful links to information about Hinduism.
Chinese Studies
Links to information in Chinese Studies will be added at a later date.

- This site lists several links to other Buddhist sites and information. Very useful.
- DharmaNet InterLinks (revised: 25 Feb

- A subpage of DharmaNet, this site offers extensive links to Buddhist resources of an
academic nature.

- This site is a major resource that contains links to many Buddhist sites in all
traditions. The site is maintained by Prof. Richard H. Seager of Hamilton College.

- AAAS Program of Dialogue Between Science
and Religion
- A project of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, this site provides
important published and unpublished materials on religion and science. The site also
offers valuable links to other sites and is very well organized.
- Center for Theology & Natural Sciences
- Affiliated with the Graduate Theological Union, Berkeley, CA, the Center conducts
conferences and provides reliable online information about the dialogue between religion
and the sciences.
- Vatican Observatory
- With George Coyne, S.J., as Director, the Vatican Observatory has been an important
research center for many years. This site provides useful information in the area of
religion and science.
- John Templeton Foundation
- Although it represents the sometimes idiosyncratic views of John Templeton, the
Foundation promotes important work and provides online information about religion and
science.
- Citing Electronic Resources
- This is a compendium of methods for citation of electronic or online sources of
scholarly material. It is compiled and maintained by the Sarah Byrd Askew Library of

- Main web page of the Library of Congress. This is a major academic resource in all
disciplines.

- Offers extensive online resources in wide variety of subject areas.
- National Endowment for the Humanities
- Main web site and primary source for programmatic and grant information for scholars in
the humanities.
- National Archives and Records Administration
- This is a useful site that provides materials about the rights of American citizens, the
actions of federal officials, and the national experience. The site provides online access
to resources in a variety of media.
- H-Net, Humanities & Social Sciences OnLine HOME PAGE
- This site is an ambitious project to provide online resources in the humanities and
social sciences. It is hosted by Michigan State University.
- Documents in Law, History and Diplomacy
(Yale Law School)
- This site offers electronic documents in law, history, and diplomacy. It is maintained
by the Avalon Project at Yale Law School. Holdings are extensive.
- The Chronicle of Higher Education: Academe This Week
- This is the daily front page of The Chronicle of Higher Education--the major news outlet
for higher education in the USA. Some information is available free; most articles and
services, however, are available by paid subscription (which can be done online).
- The World Lecture Hall - Univ. of Texas
- The World Lecture Hall (WLH) contains links to pages created by faculty worldwide who
are using the Web to deliver class materials.
- WLH - Religious Studies
- This is a shortcut to the religion links provided in the World Lecture Hall.
- US Holocaust Museum
- This official site offers excellent sources for the topic.
- Peabody Museum of Archaeology and
Ethnology
- This is a valuable resource maintained by the Peabody Museum at Harvard University that
provides online access to the museum's research, photographs, and other materials in a
wide variety of areas.
- The Internet Public Library
- The Internet Public Library is the first public library of the Internet. Maintained by
librarians, the site tries to filter out some of the junk available on the Internet.
- Academic Info
- Academic Info is a directory of Internet resources tailored to a college or advanced
high school audience.
- Center for the Study of Ethics in the Professions
- Maintained at the Illinois Institute of Technology, the Center provides online
information about codes of conduct for various professions. The Center intends to catalog
ethical codes for all professions eventually.
- Guide to Philosophy on the Internet

- This is a useful site for reliable information and links in philosophy.
- New York Review of Books
- An important resource for literature, history and culture.
- BJ Pinchbeck's Homework Helper
- Maintained by a 13-year-old, this site is a large collection of other sites on nearly
all topics. It is useful for students from elementary through college level as a gateway
to some valuable and not-so-valuable Internet resources.

- Center for the Study of Ethics in the Professions: Codes of
Ethics Online Project
- This project is collecting and publishing online all available codes of ethics for the
various professions in the USA. Very useful for anyone doing research in this area.

- This site contains links to regulations and other information concerning all professions
licensed by the State of New York.
- AICPA
- This site links to the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants code of ethics
for accountants.
- NEA: Code of Ethics of the Education Profession
- This site contains the National Education Association professional code of ethics for
teachers.
