Google is great for a lot of things. Google always gets you something, doesn't it? It's your friend, isn't it? It works, right? Try using Google and citing the material you find in Google for a college paper. On the other hand don't; you'll fail the assignment. Google won't get you all the way to scholarly journal articles and into our book collection. Academic writings are found in books published by scholars in such publishing houses as the university presses. Secondly, academics often write journal articles instead of books. That's where the databases such as Academic Search Elite and Worldwide Political Science Abstracts and Anthropology Plus come in to your academic life. They index scholarly journals so that you can find what has been published on your topic by scholars. No matter what your major is or what course you are taking, there is a Web page of search tools waiting for you at Databases by Subject page on the Library Web site.
