The decision to include an
individual on this list is grounded in both a personal judgment
from my reading of the literature and results gathered from studies of the scholarly judgment of other
narrative reseachers as well as journal citation frequencies
(Hevern, 2001; Hevern, in preparation) Suggestions from browsers about missing theorists or bio-bibliographical resources (particularly Internet-based) which might be listed here are welcome.

Sources. These sources serve as part of the evidentiary basis for citing many of the theorists and key figures above as particularly important in the development of the narrative perspective in the social sciences, particularly psychology:
- Hevern, V. W. (2001, August). Teaching narrative in psychology: Scholarly foundations and advisement resources. Poster presented at the annual meeting of the American Psychological Association, San Francisco, CA. [Available as a pdf or MS Word rtf file from the author.]
- Hevern, V. W. (in preparation). Scholarly foundations of the narrative perspective in the social sciences. Manuscript in preparation.
Some general Internet biographical resources used here
- Philosophy Pages. Garth Kemerling's online site is the best single source of information about philosophy and philosophers which I know of. Many links to other online sources. Abbreviated as PP.
- Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy. Online reference site. Abbreviated as SEP.
- Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy. Abbreviated as IEP.
- Lois Shawver maintains a helpful short "names" index of historical and contemporary figures of importance in the communities of the various postmodern therapies (Postmodern Therapies News site). Many of her entries parallel individuals cited below.
- Marxist philosophy scholar Andy Blunden has compiled extensive biographical notes and textual examples from the important philosophers and contributors to the modern (Western) world in his Value of Knowledge: A Miniature Library of Philosophy. A very valuable set of resources which extends to figures of major importance in grounding the narrative perspective in psychology.
